Rebirth of the Immortal

Welcome to our newest guest blogger, Phoenix, who is 15, from North Carolina.

Among the bird's nest, a small cocoon of fire enveloped the sleeping creature slowly, silently as if nature wished to let it leave in peace. Small embers, still teeming with a spark littered the gathering of tiny twigs and leaves while the flames crept upon its feathers. While resting, its small, almost pitiful seeming leg kicked weakly, setting the entire nest afire. The silent cocoon erupted, a volcano spreading destruction to what was nearest. In an instant, the bird twitched itself awake and cawed softly, lulled by the realization for some odd reason.

The blaze only grew, moving towards the branches that supported the winged creature's home and onward, yet it was not alarmed. No, this was part of something greater than the end of a simple home, a simple being. As the physical manifestation of heat closed in on the creature's body, it only rested the small beady orbs of white for another moment, the fire soothing instead of unnerving like any other being considered.

Once the bird was no longer seen through the transitioning colors of red to blue, the flame sat, unmoving. Ash began to build from the surrounding limbs of what used to be a tree, branches falling as the bark became charred; a scar of nature. Within moments that seemed to last an eternity, the fire gradually smoldered out, unable to live off what it had already destroyed. In the stillness of the air, the end of one creature's life became the beginning of another's as the ashes began to move.

From the metaphorical egg, a new bird sprouted its head from the shell of soot while trying to get its body out. From its imminent death to a new birth, this was only the beginning of another cycle for the creature fondly called Phoenix.
