Monday, a Georgia mom, Sonya Mathews, and her daughter, Paige, were shopping in Walmart. Roger Stephens, 61, a stranger, allegedly walked up to Mathews and told her if she didn't make her kid stop crying, he would.
Paige, 2, continued crying. That's when Stephens allegedly slapped her across the face about four times and told Mathews, "See, I told you I would shut her up."
This makes my blood boil. And I have read comments by others who thinks otherwise.
I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can condone a 61-year-old stranger slapping a 2-year-old little girl in the face.
What if he caused her hearing damage? Yes, it's possible. I know an adult that was slapped in the face and it caused permanent hearing damage.
If my 2-year-old granddaughter is tired and throws a tantrum at Walmart, which I hope she doesn't, but life happens, and a strange man walks up to her and slaps her across the face to shut her up, I'll attack him. The cops will be peeling me off of him and arresting me.
Mathews screamed at him and called for security. Another shopper stopped him. After the police arrived, he apologized to the mom for hitting her child, according to the police report.
Stephens, a Stone Mountain resident, had his first court appearance Tuesday and is being held without bail by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department. Stephens was charged with felony cruelty to children, according to the police report.
Paige was reported to have suffered a slightly red face. Of course we have no idea about the psychological injuries or hearing loss she might have experienced.
What do you think about people who try to discipline strangers' children?
What would you do if this happened to your child?

I can't believe someone would do that! I have a two year old little girl and I know at times she can be trying and loud at the store but no way would I ever allow that!!! That is crazy! I would have to go to jail! He would not have made it past one slap!
