 Fifth Anniversary of Operation North State

Many North Carolina deployed troops serving our country will get a welcomed taste of home for Christmas. But, your help is immediately needed.

Since Oct. 2010, Operation North State (ONS) founder and chairman, Terry Snyder, has worked to get N.C. products to members of our Armed Forces who are deployed worldwide. Last year ONS mailed 500 boxes to our servicemen and women.

Veterans can receive one entree from the select menu, sides, and drink.

Veterans Day at Olive Garden 11/30

Active duty and Veterans can receive a free entree from a limited menu today only. Family members can receive a 10 percent discount off their meals.

Current members of the military and their dependents, with proof of service or a military ID card, will receive 10 percent off their meals through Nov. 30.

This offer is available for dine in and to go. Alcohol, tax and tips are not included.

Golden Corral’s 13th annual Military Appreciation Monday event for Veterans Day will be held today. All those who have served in the US military may enjoy a free “Thank You” dinner at Golden Corral restaurants between 4-9 pm.

It seems like a lifetime ago, yet it seems like only yesterday when my phone rang in the early morning and the voice of a dear friend yelled, "turn on your TV." I asked her why and she yelled again to just turn it on. That's when I found out our world had changed forever. We would no longer feel safe from terror on American soil.

As Memorial Day nears, MVDC has published its the top states for military discounts and veterans discounts for 2013. this year, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas and Indiana top the list. As more states engage in promoting veteran discounts, it's expected that the rankings will change.

 I know how special military children are, I have two. My kids grew up in the military with their dad always gone. It's a hard life for the soldier and the spouse, but it's hardest on the children. That's why it's important to spend every day like its special, like dad may have to leave again tomorrow.
