Sam's Club recalls Simply Right baby wipes due to possible bacteria; Return product for refund

Statement on Simply Right Baby Wipes Withdrawal

Our babies have sensitive skin. We don't want to worry about infecting them with a bacteria through baby wipes. If you have any Simply Right baby wipes from Sam's Club, stop using them and return them for a refund.

Jill Turner-Mitchael, Senior Vice President, Health and Wellness, Sam's Club, wants you to know what the problem is with the wipes.

The safety of our members and their families is a priority at Sam’s Club. As soon as we learned that a limited number of Simply Right baby wipes did not meet our quality standards, we voluntary directed all clubs to remove all Simply Right baby wipes from our shelves and placed an electronic block at our registers so the item can’t be purchased. We take these matters seriously and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our members. We are communicating directly with members who purchased the product for whom we have member-provided contact information. The communication that was sent to those members is below.

“You are receiving this message because Sam’s Club’s records indicate that you recently purchased Simply Right baby wipes.

The safety of our members and their families is a top priority at Sam’s Club.  Our supplier, Nutek Disposables, Inc., has advised us that some Simply Right branded baby wipes offered for sale at Sam’s Clubs beginning June 30th of this year may be contaminated with B. cepacia bacteria.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, this bacteria “poses little medical risk to healthy people.   However, people who have certain health problems like weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases, particularly cystic fibrosis may be more susceptible to infections with B. cepacia.”

As soon as we learned that some of these baby wipes may not meet our safety and quality standards, we voluntarily directed all clubs to remove the product from our shelves and website and placed an electronic block at our registers so the item can’t be purchased.  We continue to  work with our supplier to quickly understand the facts and necessary next steps.

Any consumer who purchased affected product should discontinue further use and promptly return any remaining product to Sam’s Club for a full refund.
