Oct.13 is National Halloween Costume Swap Day

Halloween costumes can be expensive. I use to make all the costumes for my kids. No, I am not a seamstress, but they won costume contests. Now, you have another option.

Hundreds of communities across the country will gather this weekend to "swap" old costumes for new as a way to celebrate Halloween in an environmentally friendly and affordable way.

WHO: Families, neighborhoods, schools and libraries holding free Halloween "Costume Swap" in their communities.

WHAT: National Costume Swap Day – Oct. 13

WHEN:  Most events are on Oct. 13, at various times, though swaps are happening throughout October.

WHERE: Nationwide. For specific events please visit http://www.greenhalloween.org/CostumeSwap/find_2012.html.

WHY:  Green America’s Green Halloween® program has helped to organize more than 150 costume swaps in more than 37 states nationwide. Costume Swaps save money and resources, build community, and help families celebrate in a more eco-friendly way.

Get your Halloween off to a "Green" start at Charlotte's Green Halloween Costume Swap on Saturday, October 13th in South End and Saturday, October 20th in Blakeney. Don't buy new this year - save some money and help green our community by swapping out your children's gently used costumes.

Hosted by Natural Luxe and Baby Elan Daily, this is a great opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint. We will have goody bags filled with great discounts and offers from our sponsors for the 1st 50 swappers to arrive at each swap.

Green Fact from Use Less Stuff - If half the costumes kids wear each year were swapped, we could reduce the annual waste by 6,250 tons, equivalent to 2500 mid-size cars!

Drop off costumes Sept. 15 - Oct. 12 at the following Charlotte locations.

The Boulevard at South End 1440 South Tryon Street 980-219-7526

Eco-licious - 1916 Commonwealth Ave 704-966-7030

All About Baby Charlotte - September 16th

The deadline to submit costumes is October 7th. Feel free to contact Jennifer with Natural Luxe at 704-904-2535 or naturalluxe@yahoo.com with any questions.

We are accepting gently used children's costumes. For every costume you donate, you will receive a ticket to swap out for a new one. We will gladly take donations of costumes too and help you clear some space in your home!

Join us Saturday, Oct. 13, at Atherton Mill Market 2104 South Boulevard, Charlotte 10am - 12pm

or

Saturday Oct. 20 at The Big South 5K finish line in the Blakeney Shopping Center

That is awesome, I wish I had known about this before. I didn't even know they had anything like this. It's a really great idea though, esp. since most kids only wear their costume the one time for Halloween.
