America’s Cutest Lil’ Energy Savers can win $250 for their video about energy efficiency

Do you have a high energy bill? Do you use energy efficient products? The less energy you use, the more money you save. You also help the environment. Sometimes parents need to be reminded by our little energy savers to do our share and leave some green for them.

Green America and Consumers Union are running a new energy efficiency contest, “America’s Cutest Lil’ Energy Savers.” Children can submit videos detailing how their households can save energy.

“This is a fun way to be creative about saving energy," said Shannon Baker-Branstetter, policy council, Energy and Environment/Consumers Union and the Advocacy and Policy Division of Consumer Reports. "Which is good for the planet and good for your wallet.”

“Children know the simple truth: that saving energy is the smart thing to do, " said Todd Larsen, corporate responsibility director, Green America. "America’s Cutest Lil’ Energy Savers gives kids all over the country a fun way to help us all save energy and save money at the same time.”

Video submissions can be submitted from Oct. 1-15. An online public voting period will run from Oct. 16-31.

People in the area of Washington, DC, will have the opportunity to enter the contest early. Green America will be hosting its Washington, DC Green Festival for two days, Sept. 29-30.

There will be a video camera set up in the Green Kids’ Zone at 3 pm, both days to film children’s entries. The first 75 children that enter the contest at the Green Festival will be given a T-shirt, coloring books or a toy donated by North Star Toys, Reach and Teach, Taraluna, and Syracuse Cultural Workers.

How to Enter:
You can enter the contest by going to www.CutestEnergySavers.org. Then provide your first and last name, email address, upload a video of your child/children or pet showing or giving suggestions how to save energy.

Video must be one minute in length or less.

The first 100 entrants to successfully submit a video will receive one of the following items to be determined by the sponsor in its sole discretion: Green America membership (including free entrance to Green Festivals), a Consumer Reports online subscription, or an energy efficient (LED) light bulb.

Summary of Rules:
Between Oct. 1-22, submit a video up to 60 seconds long showing your family member(s) saving energy. Then share it with your friends and family to get the highest score.

Voting will take place between Oct. 23-31, and the winners will be announced within two weeks.
