Steven Tyler is leaving American Idol; The X-Factor may be tough competitor

There's a shake up at American Idol. One judge is gone. Rumors have it, the other two are negotiating. Will Idol start season 12 will three new judges?

In January, when American Idol returns, Steven Tyler won't be there. The two-year judge got what he needed from his stint on the show - to return to his first love - Aerosmith.

"I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back, but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band," Tyler said in a statement. The band is on a nationwide tour and has an album due out in the fall.

Judge Jennifer Lopez hasn't yet committed to another season after announcing she may be leaving the show. Maybe the career boost she has gotten from her two-year stint isn't enough. She was making $12 million for season 11.

The only original judge, Randy Jackson hasn't renewed his contract. Although the only other original member of the cast, host Ryan Seacrest, has already signed a two-year contract.

Many names are being thrown out as replacements. Mariah Carey, and former Idol runner-up Adam Lambert are two.

As if Idol weren't having enough problems, Simon Cowell's, The X Factor, shook up it's judging panel and will start it's second season this fall with two new judges, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. This will add new spark to the show.

After a recent taping of The X Factor, at the Greensboro, N.C., Coliseum, Fox Charlotte interviewed the two new judges. Fans said Britney is sweet, but sometimes hard. Britney says she uses constructive criticism. Demi was called brutal and honest by the fans. Demi said she's been called the toughest judge, but she can be really nice.

While American Idol is stirring the pot, The X-Factor is simmering, and I can't wait to taste it.

Will you tune in to either show? Who should replace Steven Tyler?
