MARS downsizing chocolate bars

In America we like to get our money's worth. We up-size, not down-size our meals, which is why we have high levels of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Mars produces chocolate brands, including MARS®, DOVE®/GALAXY® and SNICKERS®.  To help enhance the nutritional content of it's candy, MARS is renovating it's chocolate products to reduce saturated fats and decrease calories per serving.

The company has tried to state health is why they are downsizing chocolate bars. I don't think it will be successful since prices aren't going down with the size.

MARS is a founding member and plays a leading role in The Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a program that wants to lower levels of obesity in the United States by 2015, particularly in children. I applaud their efforts.

MARS joins First Lady Michelle Obama and the Partnership for a Healthier America to to reduce annual calories by 1.5 trillion by the end of 2015 (starting with one trillion fewer calories this year), and to sustain that level.

MARS has removed 97 percent of trans fats, without affecting the taste. MARS is renovating chocolate to reduce the calories per serving. It's committed not to ship any chocolate products that exceed 250 calories per portion by the end of 2013. It would be great to eat good chocolate with less calories.

In the U.S.,  "2toGo" bars (SNICKERS® King Size chocolate bars have been replaced with two smaller bars) are packed in memory wrappers that can be twisted to close.

In the U.S., Mars Chocolate is test-marketing a new line of snacks called goodnessKnows. These bars offer two-to-three grams of fiber, three grams of protein and 200 milligrams of flavanols in each serving, while containing 150 calories and 20 to 35 milligrams of sodium. I hope it tastes good.
