A nationwide virtual Halloween Costume Swap is being hosted for families by thredUP.
Thousands of moms are trading outgrown costumes for adorable ones that fit - all online, without leaving the house.
The Halloween costume exchange works exactly like the existing swap service: moms can browse Halloween-themed boxes and pick one they’d like to receive for $5 plus shipping.
Swappers also post their kids’ outgrown costumes online and send to other families upon request. thredUP e-mails the pre-paid shipping label and schedules home pick-up.
· It will run through October 22
· To participate, browse thousands of Halloween boxes on thredUP listed by moms across the country. Pick a box for only $5 plus shipping. Next, list a box with your child’s outgrown Halloween costume and gently used Halloween-themed clothing and items online. When another mom picks your Halloween box, send it for free!
· While the main element is Halloween costumes, there will be overall Halloween-themed boxes that can include other Halloween-themed clothing, décor, items like trick-or-treat bags, etc.
Last year nearly 2,000 costumes were exchanged.
5 Reasons to Join the Green Halloween Swap
1. It’s green – duh.
Kids’ Halloween costumes are worn only once and typically tossed the following year. Cut down on waste by trading what you have for what you need.
2. Save money on costumes and more.
Swappers pay only $5 plus shipping for a box of costumes and other Halloween goodies on thredUP. Start browsing for costumes, decorations, PJs and more.
3. Swapping feels good.
Free up precious storage space by sending gently-used costumes and Halloween decorations to other families to enjoy.
4. De-clutter your Life.
Forget lugging bags of used stuff down to Goodwill. When another mom picks your box, thredUP generates the shipping label and schedules home pick-up. You can send and receive full boxes without leaving the house!
5. Get new costumes.
Gently-used isn’t your thing? Don’t worry! thredUP has partnered with two Halloween costume companies to provide you with deeply discounted options. Click here for more information about our program.

Thred Up is the coolest, such a great way to keep down on waste
I've never used Thred Up, but I have awesome luck buying AND selling on a site called Storkbroker.com so that would be another great resource for moms looking to get some extra cash for their pre-loved kids clothes and gear and also score some great deals on current needs. Storkbrokers is super easy to navigate too and I like their Community Forum board. Might be worth a nose-poke!
