MOMtreprenuer Baker of the Day: Halloween caramel, chocolate apples
Yum! One of my favorite things to eat is caramel, chocolate apples. I talk myself into thinking it's good for me since it's fruit.
Brittany Egbert and Sara Westbrook of One Charming Party, has a tutorial for Halloween treats - caramel, chocolate dipped apples.
Caramel: You need really cold apples for the caramel to stick. Melt caramel in a double boiler. Wash and dry the apples well, because water will mess up the caramel. Put a wooden stick into each apple. Dip the apples into the melted caramel, turning the apples a bit to the side if needed to cover the apple. Place each caramel covered apple onto nonstick aluminum foil. Let the caramel harden so the chocolate will stay on the apple.
Toppings: Have your favorite apple toppings ready before you melt your chocolate. Place your toppings into individual bowls.
Chocolate: Melt your chocolate on a double boiler on the stove or in the microwave. After you have dipped your apple in the chocolate, roll it into the topping of your choice while the chocolate is still melted. Place each apple onto the nonstick aluminum foil again.
Chocolate Drizzle: Once the chocolate and toppings are dried, you can melt white chocolate or more regular chocolate and drizzle it onto the apple. Place melted chocolate into a disposable frosting bag or quart size Ziploc freezer bag and snip a small hole at the point to allow chocolate to flow out. Hold the apple up and drizzle.
I didn't include all of the pictures or instructions. Please visit One Charming Party to get the complete tutorial.
