'All My Children', 'One Life To Live' get killed off; The View pays tribute
I'm in mourning. More of my soaps are being killed off. After growing up with soap operas all my life, it's very hard for me to see another one, or two, go off the air.
If I can't watch a show, I always record it to watch later. A lot of people do. But, those numbers don't count.
AMC has 2.5 million viewers, which is down from the 3.2 million they had five years ago. Susan Lucci who plays Erica Kane, even took a pay cut to try to keep the show on the air. OLTL has 2.6 million viewers.
Walt Disney Co. owns ABC, and has been focused on cost-cutting measures. AMC was even moved across country from New York to Los Angeles to cut costs about a year ago.
But, after 41 years, today is the final episode of AMC. Pine Valley will no longer help us tackle the hard, once-taboo social topics of the day.
And, after 43 years we will soon say farewell to OLTL on the tube. Llanview will be moved to the Internet.
There has been discussion of taking both soaps to the Internet. However, it seems AMC has been put on hold, but OLTL will begin on the Net in 2012, after it airs its final episode in January.
Also, there is a Tribute to Pine Valley you may be interested in attending. Tickets start at $45, Oct. 25, 26, or 27. in New York or New Jersey.
There are only four network soap operas left: "General Hospital" on ABC, which I love; "The Young and the Restless," which I haven't seen in years; "The Bold and the Beautiful," on CBS, I never watched; and "Days of Our Lives" on NBC which I haven't seen in a long time.
The View Pays Trubute to AMC today, Friday, 9/23
