In an effort to help ensure the enhancements are widely implemented, TYLENOL® has worked closely with the Consumer Healthcare Products Association to share its plans with other manufacturers.
Ed Kuffner, MD, father of three, and Vice President, Medical Affairs at McNeil says to use NURSE tips to be safe when you give your children medication. Never give adult medicine. Use the measuring device. Read and follow instructions. Store medicine out of reach of children. Every child grows, knows their weight, age for correct dosage.
As early as the upcoming cold and flu season, Infants’ TYLENOL® will include a new, enhanced bottle with a protective opening and push-in syringe which will:
Provide even better dosing accuracy and ease of administration to infants.
Allow for better control when dispensing the medication and reduce spillage.
Further reduce the risk of children being able to get to the medicine in the bottle.
Enhanced bottles with protective opening will also be on Children’s TYLENOL® products.
Infants’ TYLENOL® will have the same concentration of the active ingredient, acetaminophen, as Children’s TYLENOL®, which will standardize dosing across our products and age groups. TYLENOL® has been working closely with other manufacturers of pediatric acetaminophen products to encourage an industry-wide transition to one concentration across infants’ and children’s acetaminophen products. That would make it easier for parents to give the correct dose to our kids.
For a period of time when the transition is taking place, thee will be more than one concentration of infants’ acetaminophen products available in stores. As parents and caregivers we will have to check our medicine cabinets. And, when we give medicine to our kids please always read and follow the dosing directions on the package being used so you don't end up at the ER.
When Infants’ TYLENOL® products return to store shelves, they will include the changes.
As always, Infants’ and Children’s TYLENOL® products will continue to include specially designed dosing devices appropriate to the age of the child.
Parents and caregivers should contact their child’s health-care provider if they have questions about dosing instructions. But, make sure they understand which product you are using.
