Eggs recalled because of health risk

Dates and codes are stamped on the end of the egg carton or printed on the case label. However, not all affected brands will be printed in the same order. Typically, the plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. In most cases the Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1720 223. If your carton has a combination of numbers that matches the affected plant number AND Julian date, your eggs are affected in the recall. Using the example above, P-1720 223 may appear on some cartons as 223 #1720, 1720 223 or other variations. It is important to note that both the plant number and Julian date must match. If the Julian date does not match the affected plant number than your eggs are not involved in the recall.

Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa is expanding its voluntary recall of shell eggs produced by their farms because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and Country Eggs, Inc. is recalling shell eggs produced by Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocardiditis or arthritis.

The FDA and CDC have reported confirmed cases of Salmonella enteritidis illnesses relating to the affected shell eggs and traceback investigations are ongoing.

Consumers who believe they have purchased these shell eggs should not eat them but should either destroy or return them to the distributors where they were purchased for a full refund.

Affected brands and descriptions are listed for more information.
