Feed it Forward is giving away $30 million in restaurant gift certificates

Restaurant.com is offering to feed others again this year with Feed it Forward 2009. Restaurant.com offers savings at more than 13,000 restaurants nationwide with more than 20,000 gift certificate options.

There are two ways to give this year with the addition of the Facebook option. Restaurant.com’s Feed It Forward™ Facebook application allows users to give a free $10 restaurant gift certificate to friends as well as using the Restaurant.com site. You can give up to a total of 30, $10 Restaurant.com gift certificates until Christmas either through the Restaurant.com or Facebook site, or a combination of both daily.

Americans have always banned together in a time of need. With the downturn of the economy, people are hurting and more donations are needed. Now, Restaurant.com wants to help give back.

They want to give away hundreds of free restaurant gift certificates through “Feed It Forward™,” an initiative that celebrates the gift of giving. Through "Feed It Forward,” you can treat friends, family, and colleagues — anyone you think is deserving — to savings on a great meal out. And the best part is that's it free to give and free to receive.

Restaurant.com hopes to give up to $30 million in gift certificates by midnight PST on December 25.

To send a gift certificate:
  • Download the Feed It Forward™ Facebook application
  • Select up to 30 different Facebook friends per day whom you wish to give to, until Christmas
  • Give each individual, one free $10 Restaurant.com gift certificate
You can send a note or greeting to your Facebook friends with each gift certificate.

Recipients will receive a message telling them that you have given them a gift certificate, but they have to accept the Facebook application to get it. After they accept the application and create a login with Restaurant.com, the gift certificate will be sent to the email associated with their Facebook profile. In the email, they can click on a link to the gift certificate, which offers $10 “store credit” that can be used at Restaurant.com.

Your certificates will be good for a long time past Dec. 25.

There are 6,500 restaurants participating in “Feed It Forward”, however, more than 12,000 restaurants in the program network. Each restaurant participates in the gift certificate program that works best for their business. Since Restaurant.com is offering $10 gift certificates, the restaurants that do not offer the $10 denomination is not able to participate.

You can redeem your $10 “store credit” in one of two ways. The first is to click on the link within the notification email you receive, which will take you directly to the redemption site, or you can access the redemption site by going directly to the Feed It Forward homepage. Both options will require you to put in a redemption code you get in your notification email, which will then register a $10 credit in your Restaurant.com shopping cart.

Now it's time to find a restaurant - by state, city, zip code and/or cuisine. Once you select a restaurant, use your gift credit and print out your gift certificate. Then you are ready to go eat at the restaurant you picked.
