We get to make Snow Ice Cream today

Snow Ice Cream

We don't usually get much snow where we live, unless we go up to the mountains, so today's snow is going to be exciting for the kids. And, as hard as is it to believe, some kids have been deprived and never had Snow Cream or Snow Ice Cream. Finally, we will have enough snow to make some.

There are several recipes for this favorite cold treat. First, you have to set out a huge container to catch fresh, clean fallen snow.

When we were growing up, we got a big bowl of clean snow, maybe 10-12 cups, and stirred in two tablespoons of milk, a teaspoon of vanilla, and a quarter cup of sugar. Hand mix it. The snow will start to melt fast, so serve and eat it. It was easy and fun.

You can also add fruit juice to the snow to make Orange Snow Cream, instead of using the milk in the above recipe.

When you have about 12 cups of snow, add one can of sweetened condensed milk and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Hand mix it, serve and eat it.

Share your recipes or memories for Snow Cream.  I can't wait for my grandkids to taste it.

Years ago our neighbors made homemade ice cream. The just loved it. I've never had a homemade treat like this one. I know its gaining popularity in CT because a demonstration making in was on a local station two days ago.

We used to make this when we were kids all the time. Where we live we have no shortage of snow this year thats for sure. Will have to make some with the grand kids this weekend. Thanks

I used to do this with my kids. It was SO much fun! It not only amused them for a while, but also tasted SOOOOOO good. Also taught them a lot about ice and melting points.

This sounds like an awesome idea! I grew up with snow, but now I live in an area where we never get any. I think I'll try this idea with some shaved ice and see how it works. ^.^
