Are you going to eat a lucky dinner today?

I'm not superstitious, but I do fix a meal of black-eyed peas, mixed greens, corn bread, and bratwurst with sauerkraut for New Year's Day.

While my husband was in the military, I was introduced to eating the lucky New Year's dinner when we went out on New Year's Eve. They served the same meal every year. At first, I had no idea why.

After the dancing, drinking, and kissing at midnight, it was time to eat. The military buffet was set up with plenty of food to bring you good luck for the new year, like the southern tradition.

Black-eyed peas are served to put more pennies in your pocket in the New Year. Turnip, collard, or mixed greens put more dollars in your wallet. Corn bread is the color of gold to bring you wealth. Eat pork for prosperity, because pigs root forward, you will move forward, too..

What are your New Year's Day traditions?
