I ate a large bowl of Fruit Loops on Father's Day and vomited all day. I had no idea it was due to the cereal I had eaten, although the new box didn't really taste right.

Now, I learn the United States Food and Drug Administration and Kellogg Company are recalling certain cereals due to an off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the packages. And I just happen to have a recalled box of Fruit Loops.


Only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date are included in the recall. Products with a "KM" designation are NOT included in the recall. No products in Canada are affected.

Tips how we get our grandchildren to enjoy reading during the summer

I Can Read! Books Become an I Can Read! Member

I'm so happy my grandchildren enjoy reading. It doesn't take a lot to get them to read during the summer when they are rewarded.

My daughter takes our grandsons to the school library weekly, where the boys can earn books from the bookstore for reading during the summer. They love to do this, because they earn the right to pick a book they like.

My husband and also I subscribe to children's magazines in our grandsons names as special gifts so they have reading to look forward to. We always pick a topic they're interested in at the time, so they want to read. This requires keeping up with their activities. They may like baseball one year, and skakeboarding the next.

The boys also have a kit to create their own books. I hope to get one for our granddaughter, too. They're all very creative.

Since our three-year-old granddaughter is interested in books, too, I want to help her become a reader. We buy her books on special occasions like Easter and read stories to her. And it's fun to let her read to us.

Seven manufacturers recall two million cribs for entrapment, suffocation and fall hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling more than two million cribs to address drop-side hazards and other hazards that affect the safety of young children. The recalling firms are providing consumers with free repair kits to immobilize the drop sides or other remedies. Do not attempt to fix these cribs with homemade remedies.
